Building work has begun on the 11th centre in the GenesisCare UK portfolio. The property at Alma Road, Windsor is their largest yet measuring 19,900 sq ft set over three floors. Situated in the heart of the town, the Windsor Diagnostic and Cancer Centre will offer patients across Berkshire, West London and further afield, access to state of the art diagnostic and radiotherapy techniques.
Joint Venture Partnership
For the first time in the UK, GenesisCare has created a joint venture partnership with oncologists to deliver radiotherapy services. Sharing a vision to provide local private patients with access to high quality oncology services, GenesisCare UK and the Berkshire Oncology Partnership, a group of 10 local oncologists, have been working closely to develop this new service in Windsor. The joint venture has offered consultants the opportunity for greater influence in the design and delivery of the service and the opportunity to invest in the future of radiotherapy services. This is common practice in Australia but unique for GenesisCare in the UK.
Dr James Gildersleve, from the Berkshire Oncology Partnership, said: “Getting to this point in our collaboration has been rewarding and refreshing. It is a genuine partnership and we have had input every step of the way, from deciding on the location and property design, through to agreeing our diagnostic partners and the services to be provided. We are looking forward to the next phase, as we develop the services together. We believe this partnership with GenesisCare allows us to be sure our patients will receive the highest quality private service.”
John Allen Executive Manager for the International Operations at GenesisCare said: “We are excited to have entered into this partnership. We work closely with our consultants throughout the world and value their clinical expertise. Through this new joint venture, our close alignment ensures that patients will receive the very best clinical care in a first class environment. We will be looking to implement this model at all our new centres going forward and potentially to offer the same opportunity at some of our existing centres where we seek to have a close interaction with our consulting physicians.”
Versa HD Linac from Elekta
A Versa HD Linac from Elekta will be installed initially and patients will benefit from access to a large diagnostic suite which will include a 4 dimensional CT and MRI. The centre will house a number of consulting rooms centred around the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, deliver holistic therapies for patients and offer access on site to a supervised gymnasium.
The centre is planned to open to patients in October 2017.
