Good luck to Dr Dan Saunders, clinical oncologist at GenesisCare in Nottingham who set off this morning to cycle from London to Paris for PHASE Worldwide.
PHASE Worldwide is a UK-registered charity improving health, education and livelihood opportunities for disadvantaged populations in extremely isolated Nepalese Himalayan villages. They aim to support remote communities who desire access to basic services and need practical help to achieve this.
Dr Saunders raised money for the same charity when he did the London to Paris cycle ride last year. However this year he’s hoping to raise even more money as he is facing the greater challenge of doing the route in 24 hours – that’s 212 miles in one go.
He said: “Last year the sponsorship from our cycle funded the employment of an outreach nurse for the whole year. She’s been able to deliver more than 80 vaccinations per day, as well as support other healthcare projects.
“I’ve been training through the winter, supported and inspired by my village cycling group, Velo Club Flintham. I’ve made good progress and am optimistic that I’ll manage to complete the route in time. I’ve had some great support, but am still looking for more sponsorship to help inspire me on my way.
“PHASE is quite a small charity and every pound really does help.”
