GenesisCare is currently hosting a series of Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) educational workshops for referring consultants, utilising the expertise and knowledge of your oncologist colleagues who routinely treat SABR referrals.
These are small-group educational based events; where content is specifically tailored to the interests of the local consultant base. Hosted by a SABR expert, they offer an opportunity for hands-on planning, demonstrations and questions.
One attending doctor said of a recent event: "I knew little about SABR and consequently learnt a huge amount, which has built my confidence both on appropriate referrals and undertaking treatment myself in the future. Thank you.”
SABR is a very effective radiotherapy technique which can be used to treat small primary lung cancers and secondary cancers in the lung, liver, lymph nodes, spine and other sites, meaning patients can benefit from longer disease and symptom control and improved quality of life.
The main benefits of SABR over conventional radiotherapy are:
• A higher radiation dose can be delivered to the cancer resulting in better cancer outcomes.
• The lower radiation dose to the other body tissues results in less side effects.
• SABR allows treatment to be delivered in fewer sessions (usually 3-5 sessions over 1-2 weeks)
Our oncologists can access Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR) throughout the GenesisCare UK centre network, so do ask your oncologist if you would like to know if it is suitable for you, or contact us for further information.
