Dr Churn's professional Profile

Dr Churn is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh who subsequently trained in General Medicine to Registrar level in the UK and New Zealand before starting as a Specialist Registrar in Oncology at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology on the Wirral in 1994.

After a period of post-FRCR training at Christie Hospital, Manchester he was appointed as Consultant Clinical Oncologist at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton in 2000 with visiting sessions at Kidderminster Hospital specialising in breast and colorectal cancers. In addition to that, he has a wealth of experience treating urological and upper gastrointestinal cancers and has made a significant contribution to research within his sub-speciality interests.

In November 2014, he joined the team of consultant oncologists at the new Worcestershire Oncology Centre and he will be making a significant contribution to the development of services there, as well as continuing to hold sessions at Kidderminster Treatment Centre. In addition, he has recently been appointed Lead in colorectal cancer for the West Midlands section of the new National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network.

Dr Churn's personal profile

Dr Churn is married to Ruth, a piano teacher and environmental educationalist, and in August 2014 they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They have three children. Their two daughters are currently students of the Arts at university and their son is in sixth form, a scientist but without an inclination towards medicine. He spends some of his free time wearing out his joints playing 5-a-side football and badminton.

At weekends, whenever possible, Dr churn and his wife like to get out and about hill walking, which he combines with his hobby of landscape photography. During occasional bouts of madness, he signs up for cycling and walking challenges the most recent being a bike ride across the Andes in Peru.
